When I was a child I inherited a Comodore 16 from my older brother. This machine had seen little use as he was more interested in football. I, on the other hand put it to good use by not only playing the games we had but also making my own programs by teaching myself basic. This continued until about 1990 when the unthinkable happened and my beloved machine stopped working. All was not lost though as for Christmas that year I received the more common Commodore 64. This machine was different in many ways but I was still able to program in Basic which I was getting better at every day. I continued to do this until my interest faded at the age of about 15. I did not think about computers for another six years. I instead started playing drums in a band.
In the summer of 2001, around the time of my 21st birthday I decided to buy a PC as the internet was getting increasingly popular. I spent £700 on a Packard Bell machine which is still in use and remains the only complete PC I have ever bought. At the time of buying this computer I was not even sure where to plug in the mouse and keyboard. Since then my interest has lead to self teaching and gained me the knowledge that is now on this website.
Although I have included a hardware section in this website it is not my main focus. Every second person on the street has built their own computer and the specifications of my computers are definitely not something to shout about. Networking is however my main interest and I have done things in this area that most people will have not. Not least the wireless bridge which joins my network with that of my friends almost a mile away. I have also talked little about software on this site as despite obviously having substantial knowledge of both Windows and Linux, I would definitely not consider myself the best authority on the internet. |
